52. Int. IFKT Conference 2026

The 52nd International IFKT Conference took place in Zagreb from 1 to 2 October 2026. This year’s event was particularly special, as it not only provided a platform for international knowledge exchange but also marked the 70th anniversary of the IFKT. Experts from more than 15 countries gathered to discuss current developments, research findings and market trends in knitting technology, while sharing new ideas and perspectives for the industry.

The conference was held at the Technical Museum Nikola Tesla in Zagreb, providing a fitting setting for the two-day event. The extensive programme featured a total of 32 technical presentations covering a wide range of topics. These included alternative materials, improvements in machine components, enzymatic finishing methods, innovative knitting techniques, technical applications and the use of artificial intelligence in the textile industry. The programme reflected the diversity of current research and development activities within the sector.

The full conference programme is available on the IFKT website. In addition, members can access the Book of Abstracts through the members-only section of the website, where they can review the individual presentations and their contents in greater detail.

The first day of the conference concluded with a joint conference dinner. In a relaxed atmosphere, participants had the opportunity to continue their professional discussions, establish new contacts and strengthen existing international networks.

The second day of the conference focused, among other topics, on education and design. Ms XX from the USA provided particularly interesting insights into innovative approaches to textile education. She presented concepts that already enable students in the United States to gain easy access to knitting facilities and become directly involved in practical activities at an early stage. Her presentation highlighted the importance of practice-oriented educational opportunities in attracting and supporting the next generation of professionals in the industry.

Another highlight of the programme was the series of 16 poster pitches. In five-minute presentations, researchers introduced their current work, providing participants with a concise overview of various research projects and their findings. The participation of students from different institutes was particularly encouraging. Supporting young talent and involving the next generation in international professional exchange at an early stage remain key priorities for the IFKT.

The accompanying social programme also offered opportunities to further strengthen the international community. On the evening of the second conference day, participants explored Croatia’s capital on a guided city tour. The tour provided insights into Zagreb’s historic architecture, cultural heritage and urban development.

The 52nd International IFKT Conference was characterised by a diverse technical programme, intensive international knowledge exchange and numerous personal encounters. We look back on two successful days filled with inspiring presentations, engaging discussions and valuable new connections.

Our special thanks go to the Croatian National Section for the excellent organisation and warm hospitality. We look forward to continuing and strengthening international cooperation within the IFKT and jointly contributing to the further development of knitting technology.
